I love the write on cards from Custom Cards (full review here) and use them consistently. You can use either pencil or permanent marker on them without any problem.

After experimenting with both, I find that I prefer using the Bic Permanent Marker (full review here), primarily because it is a full size pen that clips to my shirt pocket, making it easy to retrieve.

These are worksheets I created to send as homework for students to practice writing and letter formation. It includes letters A-Z and students can trace and then practice writing the upper and lower case letters. There is also a section for students to draw a 4/5().

So these cards aren't perfect but I'm glad I got them because they are helping my son and he enjoys using them. As an alternative you could look at "learn to write your letters" by Roger Priddy. I have others in this series and "Learn to write your numbers" is a lovely book/5(37).
